Shahabuddin for Mumbai Indians

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra speedster K. Syed Shahabuddin on Friday said that he has signed for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) third edition next year.

Speaking to The Hindu, the lanky Anantapur-born all-rounder, said that the Mumbai Indians coach Robin Singh had contacted asking for his willingness to play for the Mumbai franchisee.

“I immediately gave my acceptance as it will be a great learning experience to play along with World’s greatest cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. The paperwork is on,” said the smiling 30-year-old Shahabuddin.

His brilliant hundred against Kerala for Andhra at Thalassery early this month in the Ranji Plate Group ‘B’ match drew the attention of the Mumbai Indians management.

Shahabuddin, known for his lusty hitting down the order, has taken over 170 First Class wickets for Andhra and his outstanding performance in the Deodhar Trophy paved way for his joining the Indian Cricket League (ICL) representing Hyderabad Heroes.

Before joining Andhra, Shahabuddin represented Hyderabad in junior cricket.

“ICL enabled me to learn the intricacies of the Twenty20 format.

“Coach Steve Rixon was of great help to me,” he added.
