CHANDIGARH: Haryana on Saturday urged Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal to take up the Presidential reference made to the Supreme Court about the Termination of Agreements Act and also get completed the remaining portion of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal in Punjab territory at the earliest. Haryana Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav called on Mr. Bansal in New Delhi to discuss various issues concerning the State, according to an official release issued here. Capt. Yadav raised the issue of Shahpur Kandi Dam project which has been declared a national project by the Centre. Mr. Bansal said he would ensure that Punjab complies with the conditions laid down by the Planning Commission. The Union Minister also assured Haryana that he would try to get the work on all three dams on the Yamuna speeded up. Aid on Saraswati riverMeanwhile, Mr. Yadav assured all assistance to the Saraswati River Research Institute to ensure complete flow of the sacred Saraswati river. Speaking at the inaugural function of an international session on “Saraswati Nadi -- Ek Paridrishya” at Kurukshetra, the Minister said the Vedas make a mention of this sacred river. The Dadupur-Nalvi canal would immensely help in infusing new life into this ancient river, he added. He appreciated the efforts of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation to trace the course of the sacred river. When ONGC scientists were looking for oil near Jaisalmer, they found a fast flowing water course and they also found flow of water near Kalayat in Haryana, he added.
