Shankaranand laid to rest

Kanagala (Belgaum district): The UPA Government and All India Congress Committee on Saturday paid rich tributes to the former Union Minister B. Shankaranand, who passed away at a private hospital in Belgaum on Friday.

Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa, who arrived here to offer condolences on behalf of UPA Government and AICC, recalled services of the veteran Congress leader to the nation as Minister who held different portfolios in the governments headed by Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and P.V. Narasimha Rao and the Congress party as well.

Similar views were expressed by Chairperson of Karnataka Legislative Council Veeranna Mattikatti; Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande; Horticulture Minister Umesh V. Katti; the former Ministers H.K. Patil, Veerkumar Patil, Prakash B. Hukkeri and Satish L. Jarkiholi; MPs Prabhakar B. Kore and Suresh C. Angadi; MLAs Feroz Sait, Sanjay Patil and Shyam B. Ghatage; MLC M.P. Nadagouda, MLC and others.

The body was buried in a “samadhi”, which was constructed some weeks ago.
