Airtel slashes roaming charges

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel on Friday announced 60 per cent cut in its roaming charges by launching a new ‘Turbo’ plan for pre-paid and post-paid customers. Under the new plan, only 60 paise per minute will be charged on all incoming calls and on outgoing local and STD on own network while roaming, while 80 paise will be charged for local and outgoing calls to another network. Similarly, under the plan, users will be charged 50 paise per minute for local and STD calls on own network and 60 paise per minute on other mobile and landline phones. To avail themselves of the plan, post-paid users just need to get it activated, while pre-paid customers will be charged a plan enrolment fee of Rs. 98, which gives an incoming validity of one year.

“Recent research has shown that customers need benefits while travelling and are not satisfied with just local calling benefits. Airtel is uniquely poised to be able to meet this need because of its seamless, formidable network presence across India. Airtel Turbo will help our customers enjoy our services in a boundary-less manner.” Bharti Airtel President (Mobile Services) Atul Bindal said in a statement.
