JD(S) to reciprocate Congress gesture

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) has in-principle decided to reciprocate to the Congress’s gesture to field a single candidate in the two-member constituencies in the upcoming elections to the Legislative Council from the local body constituencies to be held on December 18.

“In principle, we have also decided to field a single candidate in all the two-member constituencies for the coming elections to the Legislative Council from the local bodies,” Janata Dal (Secular) spokesperson Y.S.V. Datta told The Hindu.

Of 25 seats in the Legislative Council going to polls, five constituencies that are double member seats.

Mr. Datta said his party’s decision to field a single candidate in the two-member constituencies was taken in the wake of the Congress’s decision to field only one candidate in them.

The Janata Dal (Secular) will begin the process of finalising candidates soon, he added.
