Advised to go to people instead of going on fast-unto-death HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao on Friday met former Minister Palvai Goverdhan Reddy seeking support for his indefinite fast from November 29 at Siddipet. Mr. Rao said he called on Mr. Goverdhan Reddy to greet him on his birthday at the latter’s residence. Sources said the two leaders discussed about the fast unto death planned by Mr. Rao. ‘Hasty decision’It is understood that Mr. Goverdhan Reddy told Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao that he had announced the indefinite fast in haste. He is said to have advised him to go to the people instead of launching the fast-unto-death, which could lead to law and order problem. He also expressed fears that there was every chance of anti-social elements and Maoists taking advantage of the situation. Meanwhile, Civil Supplies Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Higher Education Minister D. Sridhar Babu and former Minister Md. Ali Shabbir at a press conference faulted Mr. Rao’s ‘Jago Bhago’ campaign. They said there were several reasons for backwardness of regions. Controversial remarksMr. Krishna Rao said the Congress had always strived hard to develop the backward regions, including Telangana. He lamented that some TRS leaders were issuing controversial statements that hurt the sentiments of people of other regions. Mr. Shabbir said Congress party would protect the interests of non-Telangana people in Greater Hyderabad limits. He derided Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao for retreating from contesting the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. Mr. Sridhar Babu, on the other hand, demanded that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu should first explain why his party forged an alliance with the TRS before seeking the votes in GHMC elections.
