Postal employees stage dharna

HYDERABAD: Members of the Joint Council Action of Andhra Pradesh (Postal) staged a day-long dharna outside the office of the Chief Post-Master General here on Friday protesting against what they termed ‘privatisation’ moves by government. The demands included asking government to drop all measures to merge Railway Mail Service offices having more than 10,000 mails, sub-regional offices with Head Post Offices, computerised registration centres, regional offices and transit sections. The Joint Council has decided to serve notice and go on indefinite strike from December 15.

Circle Secretary of the All India Postal Administration Offices Employees Union K. Ramachandran said that it was only with intent to slowly privatise postal functions that the Motor Mail Service was being outsourced.

General secretary of the Confederation of Central Government Employees V. Nageswara Rao and others spoke.
