The civic body paid a salary of Rs.8,000 to them.

He said that with modernisation of burial grounds only around 80 staff were needed to man them, whereas there were around 180. Already 10 assistants had sought transfers to other positions in the civic body.

On Friday, seven persons sought transfer.

Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni said that the assistants must remember that people who come to burial grounds are in a state of distress and need compassion. He said that they must treat all those who come to burial grounds equally.

Deputy Commissioner (Health) P.Jyothi Nirmala and Corporation Health Officer P.Kuganantham participated.
