Bangalore: The midnight joyride turned out to be a mugging nightmare for two friends early Friday with one of them being stabbed with a knife. The duo lost their debit cards, a gold chain, a mobile phone and other valuables to the robbers, who fled under the cover of darkness after snatching the car keys. Krishna Boparaju (27), a resident of BTM Layout Second Stage, had bought a new car and was honing his driving skills near Madivala lake when three armed men attacked them around 3 a.m., the Madivala police said. Mr. Boparaju sustained stab injuries when he resisted the attack. Vasantha Philips of Vinayaka Street off Kammanahalli Main Road was accosted by two motorcycle-borne men around 10.30 p.m. and was robbed at knifepoint of a gold chain, a gold ring, Rs. 5,000 and a mobile phone on Thursday night in front of Kalyani Bar and Restaurant near Oil Mill Road. The Banaswadi police are investigating. ‘Case solved’The Hosahalli police have claimed to have solved the murder of 26-year-old S. Paul Sudesh in August with the arrest of two persons. The accused, R. Manjunath alias Manja (27), resident of Basvanapura near Jalige village, and Christi Kumar (40), were arrested on Thursday. Another accused Jayaram is said to be absconding. Sudesh’s partially burnt body was found in an eucalyptus grove in Cheelenahalli, near Doddaballapur, on August 21. ArrestedThe Fraser Town police arrested three persons for allegedly murdering Appu, a labourer, on November 7. The arrested are Vijay Kumar (27), K. Nirmal Kumar (31), E. Mani (27), all residents of Cox Town. The police said that the three murdered Appu over a mobile phone. Held for ‘cheating’The High Grounds Police on Friday arrested Akash Gowda on charges of cheating film aspirants in Kerala. They said that Gowda, posing as the producer of “Mungaru Male”, had cheated S.P. Sajo, Bipin and Karthik by taking money for giving them roles in the Malayalam remake. The police said that Gowda was a resident of Hulimavu and was into real estate and granite business. SuicideSameer Naik, an accountant in a hotel on Mahatma Gandhi Road here, hanged himself at home in Nagashettyhalli Thursday night. The Sanjaynagar police reckoned he may have committed suicide between 4 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. when his wife was visiting relatives. ArrestedThe Jagjivan Ram Nagar police arrested Jafar Pasha of K.K. Lane in Cottonpet, an alleged chain-snatcher, and recovered eight gold chains from him worth Rs. 4.25 lakh. In another case, a 19-year-old was arrested on charges of snatching gold chains from elderly women in Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits. Chains worth Rs. 70,000 were recovered from R. Manjunath alias Manja, a resident of Sharada Nagar near J.P. Nagar, by the Kumaraswamy Layout police. ArrestedThe Rajarajeshwarinagar police arrested four alleged highway robbers and recovered cash and Rs. 2.5 lakh worth valuables from Sathish Rajappa (23) of New Timber Yard Layout; Arivu Arun Gopalakrishna (31) of Bakshi Garden; Shivakumar alias Missed Call Shiva (28) of Gurusarvabhouma Nagar; and K. Shivaram Murthy (31). The accused had allegedly robbed two drivers in separate incidents near Rajarajeshwarinagar on Mysore Road, the police said. RecoveredThe Hoskote police on Wednesday recovered about 2,400 litres of adulterated petrol from a shop on Malur Road in Hoskote. However, the suspects, Noushad Abdul Khadar and Moula Abdul Khadar, fled.
