Perambur residents stage protest

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Residents of Arundathiyar Nagar, Mettupalayam in Perambur staged a road roko on Friday at the Cooks Road junction on Perambur High Road protesting against the lack of basic amenities, including drinking water supply.

A release from Chennai Metrowater said that after officials of various departments, including those from Metrowater, assured them of measures to improve the service, the protesters dispersed.

Metrowater also conducted tests on the quality of the water in the area. It found that the water was contaminated in six streets, including Varadappan Street, Dasari Street and Bangaru Street.

The problem has been addressed except in Elecon Street and Varadappan Street where service connections have been isolated from the main pipeline.

The two streets are being provided tanker supply as a temporary measure and piped supply would be resumed in a week, the release said.
