Man relieved of gold chain

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A man was relieved of 10 sovereigns of jewellery at a private scan centre here on Thursday.

According to police sources, Munusamy and his wife M. Bhanumathi (57) of Virugambakkam went to a scan centre in Vadapalani for the latter’s diagnosis. Since the technicians told Bhanumathi to remove her jewellery, she handed over a gold chain and studs to her husband.

An unidentified man who was present there offered to keep the jewels in the locker room. He took the valuables and walked into a room after asking Munusamy to assist his wife in the scan process.

After sometime, when the couple enquired the way to the locker room, the scan centre staff said there was no such room. The suspect who took the jewellery was missing. The Vadapalani police are investigating.
