Appeal for fair elections

Hyderabad: Election Watch, a voluntary organisation has appealed to political parties and State Election Commission (SEC) to ensure free and fair GHMC elections.

Already, several complaints like campaigning beyond the stipulated time and involving children in canvassing were brought to the notice of authorities, said Election Watch State Convenor, M. Veda Kumar at a press conference here on Friday.

He said a few issues like lack of facilities at polling booths in last general elections were brought to notice of the authorities. He asked the voters to analyse the candidates’ profile before casting their vote and not to fall prey to false promises made by candidates. The organisation has set up a helpline no. 90105-94834 to enable citizens lodge complaints about any violations committed by contesting candidates, distribution of liquor and money etc. Division-wise committees were also established to help voters seek any information pertaining to polling booths and other details.
