MANGALORE: The inauguration of the Dakshina Kannada Dharmika Souharda Samiti (DKDSS) at the Town Hall on Friday evening received an overwhelming response from the people. The samiti was formed as a follow up to the Dharmika Souharda Sammelana held in March 2008. According to Aera Laxminarayana Alva, president of DKDSS, the objective of the organisation is to create a platform for spiritual and political dialogue between communities. Mohammed Kunhi from the Jamat-e-Islami Hind said that good people had chosen to remain silent over atrocities being committed with impunity. “Most people, who believe in the rule of law, think that their silence represents decency and dignity.” Imploring secular people to make themselves heard he said, “You must speak out for there are some people making use of your silence. For evil to triumph the good must do nothing.” Vidyaprasanna Tirtha, and Roni Prabhu, director of the Fathima Retreat House, spoke.
