Compound walls of apartment complex demolished

Officials say there was not much opposition to action

Drive may continue today

BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP) on Friday demolished a 22-foot stretch of two apartment buildings that had allegedly encroached upon a raja kaluve in Gottigere in the Bommanahalli zone.

“Today, we demolished four compound walls of the apartment complex,” said a senior BBMP engineer. “We are clearing the storm water drain of some 25 feet of encroachments along the area.”

Unlike many of their demolitions in densely populated areas, BBMP officials said they did not “face much opposition” because the apartments were largely unoccupied.

The demolition was likely to continue on Saturday.

Ittamadu report

Meanwhile, BBMP officials said that they had been asked to submit a report to the Lokayukta on the demolition drive at Ittamadu. The Lokayukta had prepared a report saying that the BBMP had not done its homework while demolishing houses there and that diverting the drain around the contentious Terrace Garden apartment there was feasible.
