CROWD-PULLER: Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy mobbed by supporters during his campaign in city on Friday.

HYDERABAD: Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, dropped enough hints that the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has assured to elevate him to the Chief Minister’s post, which is being demanded by a good number of Congress MLAs.

“My father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy used to say that politicians should never go back on their word and I have full confidence that Sonia Gandhi will fulfil her promise,” he said during his road shows indicating that she has given him some kind of assurance on the top post.

He made these remarks repeatedly during his road show in the city on Friday in favour of the Congress candidates in the GHMC elections.

Slogans raised

At Uppal and Malkajgiri meetings elated Congress activists raised slogans that they want to see him as the Chief Minister of the State. “It will happen in the near future,” he remarked immediately with a kind of confidence not heard in his voice or his followers in recent times.

He immediately added that he has full faith in Sonia Gandhi’s assurances linking his remarks and Sonia Gandhi’s promise made to him.

Leaders following him too were surprised at the authority with which he made those statements in public.

Earlier, he either evaded the question from the media or spoke of confidence in Sonia Gandhi.

“But this is the first time that he is speaking in Public with some confidence on becoming the Chief Minister,” a MLA remarked.
