Metro: KSRTC to shift operations from Majestic

Bangalore Bureau

BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is all set to hand over a portion of its land at the Kempe Gowda Bus Station (KBS) in the Majestic area for construction of the underground Metro station even as it will shift operation of its services in a phased manner from the end of this month.

Transport Minister R. Ashok told presspersons here Thursday that of the 35 acres of land in KSRTC’s possession, 20 would have to be handed over to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL), which will construct two underground Metro stations in three years and return 13 acres to the KSRTC.

While operations of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses would continue from KBS, those of KSRTC would be shifted to the outskirts of the city on the respective trunk roads. After the completion of the underground station work and commercial launch of Namma Metro, KBS would become the biggest inter-modal transit centre of the city, offering inter-connectivity between bus (KSRTC, other State RTCs and BMTC), rail (City Railway Station) and Metro, the Minister said. BMTC would run services from KBS to the alternative bus stations at regular intervals.

Meanwhile, KSRTC has taken up construction of alternative bus stations at all major trunk routes to Bangalore. Construction of the temporary bus stations with basic amenities such as toilets and drinking water would be completed in a month on NGEF’s land on Old Madras Road, KSRTC Director (Security and Vigilance) M.A. Saleem told The Hindu.

A parking lot for buses was being created near Jalahalli Circle for buses towards Tumkur Road.

Once the BMTC’s Travel and Transit Management Centre (TTMC) at Yeshwanthpur was thrown open, KSRTC would shift its Tumkur-bound operations to this facility. On Hosur Road and Bellary Road, KSRTC was yet to begin work.

However, KSRTC would continue to operate all premium services — Rajahamsa and Airavat — from KBS.
