ELECTED: K.V. Sumesh Kumar and P. Biju who have been elected president and secretary of the State unit of the Students Federation of India.
ELECTED: K.V. Sumesh Kumar and P. Biju who have been elected president and secretary of the State unit of the Students Federation of India. Kozhikode: SFI State secretary P. Biju has said the organisation will continue to put pressure on the government to take firm action against private education managements whose only aim is to make profit. Addressing the media after the conclusion of the 30th Students Federation of India State conference in Kozhikode, the newly elected office-bearers of the SFI said they would intensify their agitation against the commercialisation of the education sector. Explaining the decisions taken at the four-day conference, Mr. Biju said though certain elements of the government’s education policy came in for criticism, the SFI understood the government’s limitations in fighting organised vested interests which dominated the private education sector. Objecting to the draft proposal of the Central government, which will give a free hand to private managements in admissions and charging of fees, he said that bodies like the P.A. Mohammed Commission, which acted as a restraining force on private managements, would become redundant if such a law were to be passed. P. Biju (Thiruvananthapuram) was elected secretary and K.V. Sumesh (Kannur), president of the organisation. The joint secretaries are V.P. Prashanth (Kollam), P.K. Sabareesh Kumar (Kannur), Subash Chandran (Malappuram), M. Rajeevan (Kasaragod) and Lijo Jose (Ernakulam). The new vice-presidents are S.K. Sajeesh (Kozhikode), A.A. Rahim (Thiruvananthapuram), Dhanya Vijayan (Kottayam), Binu Kyppen (Idukki) and P.J. Bineesh (Wayanad).
