Revenue Minister G. Karunakara Reddy at a meeting in Davangere on Friday. DAVANGERE: Revenue Minister G. Karunakara Reddy has directed the tahsildars and assistant commissioners of two subdivisions in Davangere district to convince people and acquire land to relocate the flood-prone villages. He was speaking at a meeting to review the progress in the implementation of flood relief work here on Friday. He told the officials to initiate legal action if people did not agree to part with their land. The Minister said that the State Government had increased compensation for the land to be acquired to shift flood-prone villages. He asked the officials to visit the villages and convince the landowners to part with their land for a social cause. The Minister expressed his disappointment over the “failure” of the officials to acquire land in the district. Mr. Karunakara Reddy also expressed disappointment over the slow progress in the flood relief work in the district. He took the officials to task in this regard. He was upset when the executive engineer the Davangere ZP informed the meeting that of the 33 drinking water projects, only six had been completed. S.A. Ravindranath, Agriculture Minister, said the Government had not released Rs. 60 crore as promised, but only released Rs. 16 crore for relief work. He appealed to Mr. Reddy to prevail upon the Chief Minister to release funds for relief work.
