Centre must relax CRF norms, says Chief Minister ‘Consider report on relief work seriously’ THINTHANI (GULBARGA DT.): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said on Friday that his Government had decided to construct townships with all amenities for the people affected by the floods in the State. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a project to relocate 200 affected families in Surpur taluk of Gulbarga district, Mr. Yeddyurappa said initially the Government decided to create “nava gramas” to rehabilitate flood-hit people. “But we have decided to construct a full-fledged township for the people who have been forced to leave their ancestral homes. My aim is to provide all amenities in villages to prevent migration of people to urban areas,” he added. He said that the compensation given to the affected people was only pittance and the Centre should review the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) norms and relax certain conditions to enable fa rmers to get suitable compensation. The State Government on its part would come to the aid of the affected farmers and provide additional compensation once its financial situation improved. The Chief Minister said that there had been good response from the people, maths and non-resident Indians (NRIs) to the appeal for donation to take up relief and rehabilitation work in the flood-hit areas. “I signed a memorandum of understanding with a group of NRIs in Bangalore on Thursday for taking up relief work in the flood-hit areas,” he added. Cautioning the officials, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the Lokayukta report on the relief and rehabilitation work should be taken seriously. The Government had not received complaints of misappropriation and misuse of funds released for relief work. The Government would punish errant officials, he said. Mr. Yeddyurappa laid the foundation stone for a project to shift Kudi, Kubal and Konana Hipparga at Fakruddin Baba Darga at Kubal.
