Bidar
Making a point: The former Minister Bandeppa Kashempur (centre) addressing presspersons in Bidar on Friday. BIDAR: Activists of the Janata Dal (Secular) will organise a State-wide protest on Monday against the Bharatiya Janata Party Government’s “failure” to overcome power shortage and implement pro-people policies during its 14-month rule in the State, Bandeppa Kashempur, former Minister and Bidar South MLA, has said. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Kashempur said that party activists would stage a protest in front of the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company’s office here at 11 a.m. The activists would take out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where a memorandum would be submitted. Criticising the BJP Government, he said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Minister for Power K.S. Eshwarappa had issued contradicting statements on the power situation in the State. This had led to confusion among the people. Criticising Mr. Eshwarappa, he said though there had been copious rainfall, the State was facing power shortage. Besides, many power generating units had stopped functioning. Mr. Kashempur claimed that H.D. Revanna handled the power situation well when he was Minister of Power. But under Mr. Eshwarappa, the five electricity supply companies had made losses amounting to Rs. 3,500 crore, he said.
