Chitradurga: The Janata Dal (Secular) will organise a rally here on Monday in protest against load shedding in the district. Addressing presspersons on Thursday, Janata Dal (S) district unit president S.K. Basavarajan, MLA, said that as part of the protest, a procession would be taken out from the Neelakantheshwar temple to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the State had failed to deliver the goods. Farmers were the worst affected because of load shedding. They were not in a position to irrigate their land for want of electricity, he said. On the preparation for elections to the legislative Council, he said that a meeting would be held here on Monday to elicit the views of the party leaders. Referring to the projects recently launched under the Chief Minister’s Small and Medium Town Development Funds and the Karnataka Municipal Reforms Programme (KMRM), he said Rs. 60 crore had been released to the Chitradurga City Municipal Council (CMC). Mr. Basavarajan urged the people to actively participate in the implementation of these development projects. He urged them to bring the lapses in work on the projects to the notice of the officials and elected representatives. He instructed the officials to ensure that quality work was maintained. He claimed that work on a drain in Kelagote was stopped following allegations of substandard work.
