Galla foods enters Yi national network

Young Indians is floated by the CII

Mango growers welcomed into the network of 7,200 farmers

Yi’s first chapter in the State was launched two years ago in Chittoor

TIRUPATI: The farmers forming the supplier base of Chittoor-based Galla Foods Limited have been enrolled into the national farmers’ network of Young Indians (Yi), floated by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

“Yigalla farmer net” was formed here on Friday to connect young farmers to the industry and Government, thus bridging the gap between ‘Urban India’ and the ‘Rural Bharat’.

Yi National Chairman Rahul Mirchandani welcomed the mango growers into the network of 7,200 farmers in the 25-40 year age-group, picked up from eight different States.

Dwelling on the steps taken by Yi to mitigate the ryots’ woes and make farming viable, Mr. Mirchandani recalled the advisory services provided over mobile phones, teaching farm practices to students of rural schools and the initiative called ‘Uni-Connect’ to link university professors and farmers.

“We provided exposure to the suicide-prone Vidarbha farmers on better crop management by conducting tours and extended farm-related information through internet using the vast network of 700 post offices and by linking up with Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX)”, he observed. The progressive farmers would be taken to Israel for study of irrigation technology in the water-scarce nation and awards would be announced to farmers for best practices.

Ramachandra N. Galla, Chairman of Galla Foods, stressed the need to bring it down by improving productivity. He recalled that Yi’s first chapter in Andhra Pradesh was launched two years back in Chittoor district, known for its enlightened farmers. G. Jagan Mohan, Head-Operations, Galla Foods, explained the features of the Yi initiative to the progressive farmers.
