Unqualified teachers in KU Informatics Dept.
Legal Correspondent
Court gives 30 days time to appoint professors or close the courses
HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the A.P. High Court comprising Justice G. Raghu Ram and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan on Friday gave 30 days time to Kakatiya University, Warangal, to appoint full-fledged faculty, as per rules, in Informatics Department or close down the courses of MCA, MSC computer sciences, etc.
The Bench was aghast when all the respondents agreed that the ‘professors’ teaching informatics to MCA students were not qualified to teach the subject and had only taken a three-month training in computer courses. The Bench was hearing arguments on a writ petition filed by Sridhar Kumara that two persons discharging duties as professors were not qualified.
When it was clear that the norms for teaching staff under UGC guidelines and rules of AICTE were not being implemented for over a decade, the Bench said this must come to an end. The Bench, speaking through Justice Raghuram, said that it was ‘grave subversion of academic standards.’
