BHUBANESWAR: The regional painting camp and art exhibition hosted by the Regional Centre of Lalit Kala Akademi in its gallery here since November 8 concluded on Wednesday. The event featured 12 painters from five states – Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa. The artists were invited to paint on-the-spot over five days following which an exhibition of their works was mounted for public view, informed Akademi’s Regional Secretary R.K.Vedala. Major activity“This is one of the major annual activities of our centre. We invite artists here for the camp to initiate an interaction among them; so that they appreciate each other’s art tradition and skill as well,” explained Vedala. The participating artists included Debarchan Rout, Helenbala Brahma and Nilansubala Sasmal (all from Orissa); Rupinder Kaur, Aparna Anil and M.Rafique (from Madhya Pradesh); Anita Kumari and M.Suleman (from Bihar); Madhuree Sahoo and Adikalpa Yadu (from Chhattisgarh) and Pradip Sircar and Rekha Prasad (from Jharkhand). Former president of the Central Sahitya Akademi and eminent poet Ramakanta Rath inaugurated the exhibition. He interacted with the artists and hailed the initiative of the Akademi in bringing artists of diverse traditions and regions together through such annual artists’ camps. Orissa’s artists are being immensely benefited through the Centre’s activities as it provides them rare opportunities to observe various art traditions besides meeting different artists, he pointed out. A large number of city-based artists and students of art visited the camp and the exhibition and interacted with the participants.
