Co-operative week celebrations conducted

WELL DONE: Dairy Development Minister U. Mathivanan distributing prize to a student at the co-operative week celebrations in Tiruvarur on Thursday.
TIRUVARUR: Nearly 2,000 co-operative societies operate in milk sector in the State, said Dairy Development Minister U.Mathivanan here on Thursday.
Daily output
Speaking at the co-operative week celebrations, the minister said that 26 lakh litres of milk is produced per day and income per year is Rs. 2,000 crore.
Loan waiver
He also said that the State Govenment had helped farmers by waiving Rs. 7,000 crore of co-operative loans.
New loans have also been given to farmers. A sum of Rs. 52 crore has been disbursed so far as loan in Tiruvarur district so far.
The minister distributed prizes to the best Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies. M.Chandrasekaran, Collector, K. Thennan, Chairman of Tiruvarur Municipality, and R.Shankar, Vice-Chairman, participated in the meeting.
Later, Mr. Chandrasekaran, inaugurated a Rs. 1.25-crore worth new out patient and operation ward at Needamangalam Government hospital.
