Sethuraman, Vidit continue to lead

NEW DELHI: International Masters Vidit Gujarathi and S.P. Sethuraman maintained their half-point lead in the under-16 section after the eighth round of the World youth chess championship at Antalya, Turkey, on Thursday.

Vidit and Sethuraman, with seven points each, have kept alive India’s chances of bagging a gold and a silver medal in the section. Three rounds remain.

On a day of improved performances from the Indians, G.V. Sai Krishna (6.5 points) moved up to share the top spot with three others in the under-14 category.

M.B. Prathima (6.5) was in the joint second spot in the girls’ under-8 section. Ivana Furtado and C.H. Meghna were sharing the third spot in the girls’ under-10 cateogory with six points each.

Four other boys — Mitrabha Guha (under-8), Hetul Shah, M. Karthikeyan (under-10) and B. Adhiban (under-18) — were tied for the third place.
