PILING IT ON: Rujul Bhatt benefited from Gujarat’s decision to bat on despite securing the first innings lead. HYDERABAD: Twenty-three-year-old Rujul Bhatt scored 186 on the last day of the Ranji Trophy Super League match between Gujarat and Hyderabad which ended in a tame draw at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium here on Friday. Resuming on 263 for four, Gujarat decided to go in for some batting practice instead of declaring and trying to force an outright victory. As a result, the proceedings lost significance, especially since the first innings lead had already been secured. Eventually, Gujarat ended up with a huge total of 536 — a first innings lead of 300 runs. But, by that stage it was clear that the only result possible was a draw. Hence, after Hyderabad had batted only two overs in its second innings, the match was called off. Gujarat’s first innings had three notable partnerships. For the eighth wicket Bhatt and Ashraf Makda put on 128 runs in 159 minutes. After Makda departed, Bhatt and Siddharth Trivedi added 55 for the ninth wicket before Trivedi was trapped leg before by M.P. Arjun. Bhatt then put on 48 for the last wicket with Mehul Patel. The last to be dismissed was Bhatt himself — caught by Khader at mid-wicket off Ojha — after having hit fifteen boundaries off the 250 deliveries that he faced in a stay of 311 minutes at the crease. From this match, Gujarat got three points and Hyderabad one. The scores: Super League: At Mumbai: Mumbai 162 and 335 for seven decl. bt Himachal Pradesh 246 and 166 in 67 overs.
