KOLKATA: The Indian men’s compound team, comprising National champion C. Srither, Kh. Ratan Singh and Isiah R. Sanam, grabbed the gold medal — first ever in any international meet — by defeating Iran 231-230 in the 16th Asian archery championship at Bali on Friday. The Indian men’s recurve team, consisting of Rahul Banerjee, Jayanta Talukdar and Mangal Singh Champia, lost to Korea in the final at 219-222. India earned the second silver medal through the women’s compound team, comprising Jhano Hansdah, Namita Yadav and Manjudha Soy, losing the final to Korea 215-223. The Indian women’s recurve side failed to get the bronze medal after losing to China in the play-off. India is sure of winning two medals on Saturday when Isiah R. Sanam will participate in the final in the men’s compound and Talukdar and Champia will contest the recurve bronze play-off. Manjudha Soy is also in the running for a bronze medal in the women’s compound. — Special Correspondent
