Kamat dismisses reports of terror threat to IFFI
Prakash Kamat
PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and the State police on Friday dismissed media reports about a possible terror threat to the coming International Film Festival of India (IFFI), set to begin here on Monday.
Speaking to journalists at his official residence here on Friday, Mr. Kamat said he was with Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram two days ago in New Delhi. “If there was any threat perception for Goa related to IFFI, the Home Minister would have told me first,” he said.
Later in the day, Superintendent of Police Atmaram Deshpande reiterated that the police had not received any such terror-related input from intelligence agencies.
With President Pratibha Patil scheduled to visit Goa for four days from Saturday, paramilitary forces have also been deployed to strengthen security.
