dated November 21, 1959 : State trading in foodgrains

Mr. A.M. Thomas, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, told the Lok Sabha on November 20 that Government were reviewing the scheme of State trading in foodgrains in the light of the difficulties experienced by the States. Mr. Thomas, who was replying to Mrs. Mafida Ahmed, however said that it was not proper to say that the scheme had been given up. Government, he added, was making a pragmatic approach and not a doctrinaire approach in the matter.
