New date is yet to be finalised by Rashtrapati Bhavan About six companies of police personnel are rehearsing the parade CHENNAI: The parade for awarding the President’s Colours to the Tamil Nadu Police, planned here on December 2, has been deferred owing to rain. A new date is yet to be finalised by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Director-General of Police K.P. Jain said on Friday. The two-day programme to mark the 150th year of the Tamil Nadu police would be inaugurated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on November 30. A special commemorative stamp, souvenir and coffee-table book would be released. According to sources, the State police had planned a ceremonial parade in an indoor stadium on December 2 where President Pratibha Patil was to have conferred the President’s Colours on the force. While incessant rain was cited as the reason for holding the ceremony indoors, protocol demanded an outdoor parade. “Now we will have to wait for another date…the honour of President’s Colours has already been announced for the Tamil Nadu Police. A two-day seminar on ‘Traffic and Road Safety’ will mark the culmination of the 150th year celebrations. The parade will be held outdoors,” Mr. Jain said. About six companies of police personnel are rehearsing the parade on the Tamil Nadu Police Academy premises. “The parade will be a colourful one. While one company will wear the ancient police attire, others will have the uniform of Commando Force, Special Armed Police and the regular police,” a senior officer said.
