Staff Reporter

Expedite formation of labour groups too, Collector tells officials

Kakinada: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi has called for steps to extend the benefit of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and Indira Kranti Padam (IKP) to maximum number of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in villages.

The State Government has, through G.O. No. 339, mandated that at least 100 days employment should be provided to as many number of families as possible in each village panchayat.

Necessary efforts would have to be made by all the departments concerned, he said at a meeting of officials of IKP and mandal development officers.

Land development

Mr. Dwivedi instructed that labour groups, each comprising not more than 20 members, be formed by identifying SC/ST women in self-help groups interested in NREGS, their family members, agricultural labourers for the purpose of making NREGS and IKP applicable to them.

Land development should be given priority among the works allotted to such groups and they needed to be educated about the benefits of being members of the labour groups in order to retain them. The works intended to be allotted to labour groups should be identified before December 15.

The Collector ordered the IKP officials to expedite the provision of bank linkage to members of SHGs with due focus on total financial inclusion.

Only 20 per cent of the target was achieved till date in the current financial year. Steps should be taken up to speed up the implementation of bank linkage. The entire target should be reached in the next three months.

Joint Collector K. Sasidhar, Zilla Parishad chairman Ch. Venugopala Krishna, Assistant Collector Vivek Yadav and others were present.
