BHUBANESWAR: Union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai on Friday said that Orissa would be provided additional battalions of Central forces to fight Maoists after the Assembly polls in neighbouring Jharkhand. Mr. Pillai, who attended a official meeting to review the Maoist menace and the government’s preparedness to counter the Left wing extremists, said there had been delay in sending Central forces to the State due to holding of elections in several States in the recent months. The State has four battalions of Central forces for anti-Maoist operations, and it has sought another seven battalions for the purpose. Mr. Pillai said that actions against the extremists were a continuous process. He said the Centre will provide assistance to the State government for training the police personnel recruited in various wings. The Central government had recommended to the Finance Commission to provide more funds to the State for anti-Maoist operations, he said.
