Rain disrupts staging of play

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: Rain disrupted staging of the play, ‘Panthamenthiya Pennungal’, based on the life and struggles of human rights crusader Irom Sharmila, at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi open-air theatre here on Friday. A solo show by actor Madonna in which the content unfolded through monologues constituted the play, written by Civic Chandran and directed by I. G. Mini.

Braving rain, the actor enacted the opening sequences. But 15 minutes into the show, it poured and the play was stopped.

Introducing the play, its producers said the cultural world had not responded well to or expressed solidarity effectively with Irom Sharmila’s campaign.

The play would be staged in different parts of the State in the next few days.
