One hurt as policemen, lawyers clash

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: A police driver was allegedly thrashed by lawyers at the court complex at Cherthala near here on Friday, following which the police have registered a case against three lawyers citing non-bailable charges.

According to the Cherthala police, there was an order from the sub-judge asking the police to remove vehicles that were parked inside the court complex obstructing traffic. At 3.30 p.m., when policemen started removing the vehiclesa lawyer objected to his two-wheeler being removed, following which there was an argument. The argument snowballed into fisticuffs and a policeman, Nawaz, 33, suffered injuries.

The situation was brought under control after a police team headed by Cherthala sub inspector Anil Kumar reached the spot and shifted the injured policeman to the Cherthala Taluk Hospital. A case with non-bailable charges has been registered against three lawyers, Dhanesh, Sudheer and Kannan.
