Submit proposals immediately, officials directed Darpan Jain told to hold third party inspection DHARWAD: Reviewing the progress of flood relief works in Dharwad on Friday, Revenue Minister G. Karunakara Reddy directed the officials to ensure quality in the repair and reconstruction works being taken up in the flood-affected areas. Speaking at a review meeting on flood relief works at Alur Venkatarao Samskruti Sabhabhavan in Dharwad, he asked the officials to immediately submit proposals for construction of bridges in the affected areas. The Minister asked the Deputy Commissioner to conduct a third party inspection on the work to be taken up under the Calamity Relief Fund on 17 classrooms and 55 anganwadi buildings and then release the amount required. Deputy Commissioner Dapran Jain told the Minister that a proposal worth Rs. 59 lakh had been submitted for this. RelocationBriefing the Minister about the steps taken for shifting of flood-prone villages in the district, Mr. Jain said that rehabilitation work had been initiated for the complete shifting of Kongawada and Arahatti villages and the partial shifting of Gudisagar village. Steps were being taken for the partial shifting of Javur, Shirakol, Basapur, Ahatti, Shanawad, Morab and Annigeri villages, he said. Mr. Jain told the meeting that the district had been given Rs. 54 crore for flood relief work and compensation. A sum of Rs. 31 crore had been released as compensation for crop loss and house damage. Relief work worth Rs. 30 crore had been taken up in the district through various departments and an additional grant of Rs. 75 crore had been sought, he said. Mayor of Hubli-Dharwad Viranna Savadi said that an assistance of Rs. 50 crore had been sought for relief work in the rain-hit areas of the twin cities and the district administration had given Rs. 14 crore so far. Mr Savadi appealed to the Revenue Minister to release additional funds for relief work in the twin cities. Kundagol MLA S.I. Chikkanagoudra raised the issue of construction of bridges for connecting Rottigawad, Umajagi, Javanur, Kamadolli, Hanchinala villages in Kundagol taluk and requested the administration to take steps for shifting Mullolli and Hale Hanchinala villages which were being affected by the Benni Halla on a regular basis. Navalgund MLA Shankar Patil Munenakoppa, Hubli-Dharwad East MLA Virabhadrappa Halaharavi, Dharwad MLA Seema Masuti mentioned about the relief work to be taken up in their constituencies. Revenue Secretary G.S. Narayanaswamy, district-in-charge Secretary P. Ravikumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Prakash Mallapur and Commissioner of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation P.S. Vastrad participated in the meeting. Prior to the meeting, the Revenue Minister attended a photo exhibition on the damage caused by the floods. After the meeting, the Minister inspected relief work taken up at Gollar Oni and Vijayanand Colony in Dharwad.
