Port union plans strike

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: The United Port and Dock Employees’ Union will go an indefinite strike from December 15 if no agreement acceptable to the unions is arrived at by the end of this month.

The strike notice would be served on December 1. The five federations representing all employees have decided on this course, according to a press release by the UP&DE Union here.

The wage agreement of 11 major ports expired some three years ago, but no fresh agreement was possible because of the intransigent attitude of the managements.

The managements would be held responsible for the strike and its consequences, V.S. Pradmanabha Raju, general secretary of the union, said.
