Minister to lay foundations

Staff Reporter

ESIC dispensary at Enath

KOLLAM: Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan will lay the foundations for a dispensary to be constructed by the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) at Enath in Pathanamthitta district on November 29. The Ezhamkulam grama panchayat has donated 20 cents of land to the ESIC for building the hospital.

In a statement here, ESIC joint director R. Ramakrishnan said 99 of the total 136 ESIC dispensaries functioning in the State did not have their own building.

The ESIC would construct buildings for these dispensaries. The ESIC has in its possession land to construct buildings for dispensaries at six places. It will soon acquire land for the purpose in other places.

He said all new hospitals under construction and proposed to be constructed by the ESIC would be managed directly by the Corporation. The ESIC has also conveyed to the State government its willingness to take over the ESIC scheme.

This is in the larger interests of administering the scheme in a more efficient manner. So far, only the State governments of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh had agreed to hand over the scheme to the ESIC, Mr. Ramakrishnan said.
