Appan Thampuran remembered

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: Writer Sukumar Azhikode lamented the birth of a new freak language which, he said, is an embarrassing mix of English and Malayalam. He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on Malayalam language on the Kerala Sahitya Akademi premises on Thursday organised by the Information and Public Relations Department to commemorate Appan Thampuran on his death anniversary.

Writers P. Valsala, Vaisakhan, P.K. Pokker, Asokan Charuvil and others spoke.

Papers were presented on National Integration and Appan Thampuran’s contributions to Malayalam language. Literary critic Mambuzha Kumaran and Brahmani pattu artiste A.K. Padmini were honoured at the function. A cultural journey will be taken out from January 1 to February 5 for the revitalisation of Malayalam language.

Earlier in the day, floral tributes were paid at the memorial of Appan Thampuran at Ayyanthole.
