KOCHI: Nearly 500 students from various schools in central Kerala will battle it out for top honours at the The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2009 at the Toc-H indoor stadium, Janata Junction, Vytilla on Saturday. The competition will start at 9 a.m. and the contestants with intimation letters should report at 8.30 a.m. The participants have been selected from a preliminary round for juniors (Class IV to VII) and seniors (Class VIII to X). Topics givenThe topics given to juniors were ‘computer lab’, ‘morning assembly’, ‘a scene in the kitchen’ and ‘outside my window’. The topics for seniors were ‘book fair’, ‘inside the examination hall’, ‘adventure sports camp’ and ‘time-out with friends’. The topics for the finals will be announced at the venue. The judges’ decision will be final. Similar contests were earlier conducted in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, New Delhi, Bangalore, Mangalore and Mysore. The contest will also be held in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode on Saturday. The official sponsor is Lotte Caramilk and snacks sponsor Cheetos Whoosh. CertificatesFormer acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, K. Narayana Kurup, will be the chief guest at the function. He will distribute the prizes to winners at the venue in the afternoon. Apart from the first, second and third prizes, there will be consolation prizes too. All finalists will get participation certificates.
