Call to participate in service activities

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana Rao and 1 Andhra EME Coy NCC Commanding Officer M.Z.U. Siddiquie on Friday called upon the young people to participate more actively in social service and awareness creation activities for the greater good of people. They were addressing the inaugural function of a blood donation camp organised at the V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College as part of the NCC Day celebrations – 2009. As many as 82 cadets of VRSEC, PVP Siddhartha Institute of Technology and the Government Polytechnic donated blood in the camp organised with the support of the Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank.

S. Madan Mohan, Chief Medical Officer, Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank, supervised the blood donation camp. Subedar S.K. Singh, VRSEC NCC officer Srinivas and others made the arrangements for it.

Addressing the young cadets, Mr. Narayana Rao went down the memory lane and recalled how as an NCC cadet he was inspired and motivated to take up leadership roles in social developmental and service activities. “In my view, the NCC should be made a compulsory part of today’s education. It is very much necessary to inculcate values in every student,” he felt.

Lt. Col. Siddiquie said the NCC’s objectives were not just to give military training to the young people but also sensitise them to the important need to participate in service activities.

Dr. Madan Mohan said said women’s participation in blood donation was abysmally low.
