BANGALORE: The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWASF) will conduct the IWAS Games 2009 from November 22 to December 2 here. The local organising committee of the games released the technical handbook of the games on Thursday and Goolihatti D. Shekar, Minister for Textiles, Sports and Youth Services, was presented with the first copy. Jan Bockwege, technical manager of the games and R. Rathan Singh, chairman of the organising committee, were among those who attended the function. About 800 athletes from 43 countries will be participating in the game, which has 11 disciplines, including athletics, archery, badminton, powerlifting, table tennis, volleyball, shooting, golf, fencing and swimming. Wheel chair rugby will be a demonstration sport. Big win for JIRSJain International Residential School (JIRS) defeated K.E. Board HS (Dharwad) by 195 runs in the Boost Cup under-16 inter-school cricket tournament here on Thursday. Centuries by J. Nischay (122) and K. Nischit (116) and an all-round performance by Ragib, who hit an unbeaten 80 and later took three wickets, marked JIRS’ big win. The scores: JIRS 314 for four in 50 overs (J. Nishchay 122, K. Nischith 116, Adit 30, Ragib 80 n.o.) bt KE Board’s HS (Dharwad) 119 in 28.2 overs (Ragib three for 19). Infant Jesus School (Raichur) 145 in 40 overs (Shivu 26, Akshay 25, Kuldeep three for 42) lost to Rashtriya Military School 149 for seven in 30.1 overs (Vinit 75 n.o., Vibash 31, Sanjeev four for 34). Easy for PCTCPioneer Corps Training Centre (PCTC) thumped Dhanraj-Ballal Hockey Academy (DHBA) 7-0 in the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa memorial State–level hockey tournament here on Thursday. In another encounter, Central Excise rallied to beat BEL Sports Club 3-1 after conceding an early goal. Venkatesh struck for BEL in the sixth minute, but Central Excise hit back quickly through Bikrampal Singh (20th, 21st and 35th mins) and Ajay Aiyappa (32nd). The match between HAL and ITI was washed out. Chikmagalur RallyThe final round of INRC Chikmagalur Rally, which will decide the winner for 2009, will be flagged off at Chikmagalur on Friday. In 2000cc N+ category, four strong contenders Amittrajit Ghosh (co-driver – Ashwin Naik) & Vikram Mathias (co-driver – PVS Murthy) from Team Red Rooster Racing and Gaurav Gill (co driver – Musa Sherif) and Arjun Balu (co-driver Sujith Kumar) from Team MRF would vie for the top honours. Each of the contenders has emerged victorious in the previous rounds of the championship.
