NEW DELHI: Former champion Viswanathan Anand settled for the runner-up spot behind Norway’s Magnus Carlsen in the World blitz chess championship in Moscow on Wednesday. Anand, the first day leader, dropped to second place behind Carlsen after Tuesday and retained the place at the completion of the 42-round competition. Carlsen totalled 31 points, including one from his victory over Anand who tallied 28. The Indian wasthree points ahead of Ukraine’s Sergey Karjakin. Final top-10 standings (after 42 rounds): 1. Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 31 points), 2. Viswanathan Anand (28), 3. Sergey Karjakin (Ukr, 25), 4. Vladimir Kramnik (Rus, 24.5), 5-7 Alexander Grischuk, Ruslan Ponomariov, Peter Svidler (all Rus, 23.5 each), 8-10 Peter Leko (Hun), Alexander Morozevich (Rus) and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze) (22 each).
