NEW DELHI: To raise funds for a noble cause, Dhwani band, a multi-lingual musical group from Kolkata, is performing at St. Columba’s School here this coming Friday.

The band comprises four passionate music professionals — Sriram, Dwitipriya, Sarita and Naveen — who specialise in theme-based concerts. They have done more than 450 such concerts across the country and abroad. Trained in Hindustani as well as Western classical music, their shows are multi-lingual with a dash of regional folk and traditional songs as well as film songs from Hollywood and Bollywood.

For the Delhi concert, the group will also take music aficionados to a nostalgic journey with immortal songs by the McGuire Sisters, Andrews Sisters, Danny Kaye and other great names.

“We will also entertain Delhiites by singing songs in Spanish, German and African languages,” says Sriram.

Dhwani has come a long way in its pursuit to satiate the musical appetite of millions of listeners. It is now gearing up for a big album release of its original compositions which it plans to release worldwide next year.

According to St. Columba’s Principal Brother Lobo, the musical fund-raiser night is for the school’s outreach activities.

“We sponsor a mid-day meal scheme for 225 street children in Bawana. We also have a computer facility that we upgrade every year. In this facility, children are trained in computers so that they get jobs. They also visit hostels and old homes of senior citizens so that they can give something back to society. A hostel for street children is also being set up. So the musical fund-raiser will support our outreach programmes.”
