Enthralling: Einent Hindustani vocalist Padma Shri Pandit Gokulotsavji Maharaj performing at Vedant-BMC National Music festival in Bhubaneswar. BHUBANESWAR: Curtains came down on the three-day national festival of Indian classical music – Sangeet Mahotsav – being hosted here by Bhubaneswar Music Circle in collaboration with Vedant Group of Industries on Monday. The star artiste of the concluding evening was Padma Shri Pandit Gokulotsavji Maharaj, Indore-based renowned Hindustani classical vocalist and recipient of the prestigious Tansen Award for his pioneering contribution to music. Ably accompanied on tabla by Biplab Bhattacharya, the vocalist-composer-lyricist commenced his concert with rendition of raga Sudh Kalyan. In his characteristic style, he dwelt upon the elaboration of the raga leisurely for nearly an hour that appealed to the connoisseurs. And his next presentation – Deshbhakti Ragamala – that was a collage of various ragas eulogising the glory of Mother India aroused a patriotic fervour among the audience. Earlier, city-based young sitarist Jyotindra Prasad Mishra presented recital of raga Yaman that was followed by raga Tilak Kamod. He was accompanied on table by Kulamani Sahoo. Mishra’s concert failed to impress due to several adjustments of the strings that he undertook during the recital. Eminent connoisseur of arts Gopal Nanda released the souvenir brought out to mark the occasion while former Indian Ambassador Absar Beuria and former Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi president Shantanu Mohapatra inaugurated the evening programme. Bhubaneswar Music Circle vice president Rajinder Singh and Secretary Khirod Patnaik were present on the occasion. Isha Dwivedi and Sangeeta Gosain anchored the three-day event.
