Spreading the message: Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital doctors releasing balloons to mark the World Epilepsy Day on Tuesday. COIMBATORE: The releasing of balloons and distribution of patient education materials marked the World Epilepsy Day observance at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital in the city on Tuesday. The theme of this year’s observance is ‘Liberation of Patients from Epilepsy,’ Head of the Department of Neurology K. Govindarajan said. Dean of the CMCH V. Kumaran, Resident Medical Officer P. Sivaprakasam and Dr. Govindarajan were among those who released the balloons to create awareness on the good treatment for epilepsy. Curing people of epilepsy depended largely on the cooperation of the patients. They must realise the importance of regular follow-up and strict adherence to the doctor’s prescription of drugs. Dr. Govindarajan said epilepsy education materials were distributed. An identity card was also given to them. If they developed fits while on the road or at any other public place, their relatives could be contacted or the patients could be rushed to hospitals with the help of the details provided on the card.
