PATIALA: Defending champion Vikram Bhatnagar asserted his class as he outclassed the field that included Olympic silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and World record holder Ronjan Sodhi in capturing the double trap gold in the 53rd National shotgun championship that concluded at the New Moti Bagh Gun Club range here on Monday. Bhatnagar made the final with a 137 following a series of 45, 44 and 48. He had a four-point lead over the eventual silver medallist Ajay Mittal. In the final, both Bhatnagar and Mittal shot 41 each, leaving Ronjan Sodhi with the bronze with a total of 171. Ronjan had a series of 41, 44 and 46, followed by a 40 in the final. He beat Mohammed Ashab by one point and Himanshu by two points to bag the medal. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore finished 11th with a total of 117, following rounds of 43, 37 and 37.
