Tuticorin: A. Sornamalathi, an eleventh standard student of Business Mathematics of Subbiah Vidyalayam Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Tuticorin, won gold medal in under-16 high jump at the Annual Athletic Championship, 2009, held at Albert F. Peiris Stadium, Wennappuwa, Sri Lanka on November 26 and 27. Besides, the girl had won the 400 m relay and 4 x 400 m relay events and secured second place in hurdles, third in 200 meter dash in the same competition. She told The Hindu that she would like to represent India at Olympic games. The girl also took part in sporting events at national level in Jamshedpur, Chandigarh, Vijayawada, Cochin and came out with flying colours over the past three years.
