Scene of offence: Curious onlookers come to see the spot where a security man was murdered at an ATM centre in the city on Sunday. HYDERABAD: A security guard manning an ATM centre was murdered by unidentified persons after making a vain bid to loot the place at Pisalbanda crossroads in Kanchanbagh in the early hours of Sunday. Fifty-five year old B. Mallesh Goud, a resident of Raja Narasimha Colony, was fast asleep when offenders entered the centre around 3.30 a.m. Goud who woke up on hearing some noise, noticed that the offenders were trying to break open the ATM with a gas cutter. Even as he tried to resist them, the intruders overpowered him and smashed his head with a pestle. Leave bag, fleeThe guard, who suffered a grievous head injury, died on the spot. The offenders escaped from the spot after noticing some morning walkers. They left behind a cricket kit bag containing gas cutter, cylinder, wires and gloves, police said. Kanchanbagh Sub-Inspector A. Srinivas Rao said it could be the handiwork of professionals as they tried to break the cash-chest by wearing gloves to avoid fingerprint marks. The police charged the bank officials with ignoring safety norms as surveillance cameras were not installed and the guard did not have any weapon. “We are trying to collect more details from the State Bank of India officials about the incident. Efforts are also on to gather the last transaction details too,” the SI explained. Goud had earlier worked in the Irrigation Department. He took voluntary retirement six years ago to start working in private firms. He took up the guard’s job last year.
