Police seize idol worth Rs. 10 lakh

It is stated that the ‘panchaloha’ idol of Dattatreya is about 500 years old


MANGALORE: District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) police here on Sunday seized a “panchaloha” idol from two persons hailing from the neighbouring Kasaragod district of Kerala.

The accused were allegedly trying to sell the idol stealthily when the police apprehended them, according to sources.

According to the police the idol is worth Rs. 10 lakh in international market. It was said that the idol was about 500 years old. The idol was weighing 5.8 kg.

The police have arrested Damodar Pandit (58) and Satish Belchada (25), both from Kunjathhur Majal, Manjeshwar in Kasaragod, in this connection.

They were allegedly trying to sell them stealthily near a petrol outlet at Padil here. The idol is said to be of “Dattatreya Swamy”.
